  • 1. Know the reason WHY you are getting a dog, it should NOT be for selfish reasons, remember a dog is a living being too.

  • 2. Get to know your dog breed, every breed is different, with different tempers, different activity levels as well as different needs.

  • 3. Make it an enjoyable experience for both of you, make sure you make time for your dog, as your dog makes time for you.

  • 4. Consistency is vital to your training success, be consistent when developing a routine for your dog, and remember dogs go by routines.

  • 5. A well-behaved dog should respond to 7 directions in order to become a good canine citizen: Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Heel, Off, and No.

  • 6. Avoid hitting your dog at all costs! Remember punishment doesn't mean physical abuse. Punishment for dogs is the absence of reward.
